Geeta sent this telegram to her mother in Kumaon as she got the postcard last week that her father was not well at that time. She got worried as her father was diabetic and a patient of hypertension too. She wanted to know his current health status at the earliest. The postcard her mother sent took four days to reach her and now if she would send another postcard back it would take another four days. So she decided to send a Telegram and hoped that her mother would reply through Telegram only.
Although she knew that even through telegram, she would come to know of her father's health status after a couple of days only but she had no other alternative. The Telegram was the fastest method she could use.
2013
Sadhana got an SMS from her mother in Pune that her father was not well. The moment she got the SMS, she called up her father and in a minute she was talking to him getting to know how he was feeling and what treatment he was undergoing. Her father was so glad to hear from her. In the next one minute, she sent an E-Mail to her sister Ritu in London informing her about their father's health. In the next minute, Ritu was talking to her father through Skype.
1913 To....... 2013 -- A Long Journey -- From Days To Minutes
Obviously, this drastic and pleasant change has forced the public sector Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), India's only provider of Telegram Services, to stop its 162 year old Telegraph services, which is losing Rs. 350 Cr per annum. This service, launched in 1851, will formally close down on July 15, 2013.
Another aspect of this long journey --- To Be Continued...
