#CelebratingSuper: Smart Delhi Initiative...

 ~~~
Delhi is the capital city of our country. It has been the harbinger of opportunities for people from all over the nation across multiple walks of life. Of late, it has been bearing the brunt of harboring a tattered canvas as far as the scenario for the provision of basic civic amenities is concerned.
Time and again, our environment has been bearing the brunt of how we perceive the quality of life, which by and large, has also been witnessing a downward curve. Amidst all this, we must act in wake of leaving behind a positive legacy for future generations to treasure, in terms of working towards the betterment of quality of life.
With technological advancements and a realization of 'giving back to nature and society' on the rise, we seem to have sidelined the fact that scarcity of resources is a harsh reality that stares us in the face. While we witness diminishing green cover all across the 'stone garden' city that Delhi has become, the newest fad to catch our fancy in recent times is the catchphrase 'Smart City'.
At this point in time, it is of utmost importance to realize that flaunting the title of being a 'Better City' is of higher importance than that of a 'Smart City'. However, there is a certain camaraderie that persists between the two as initiatives to becoming the former contribute to turning into the latter in the long run as well.
The Ministry of Urban Development has stolen the limelight in this scenario with its undoubtedly ambitious and visionary 'Smart Cities Mission 2020' of which the capital city is an indispensable part. Betterment of quality of life is a crucial aim herein which begins with urban reforms of the likes of sanitation, good governance, and sustainable living.
Digitization seems to have become the ultimate keyword in wake of PM Modi's visionary dynamism. In keeping with the same, 'NDMC 311: Mobile App' aims to digitize household services such as bill and tax payments, consumer redressal, and even birth and death certificates and is now operational, with the inclusion of additional features by December 2017 on NDMC's radar.
While a 3D painting speed breaker had been first introduced on Rajaji Marg by NDMC late last year on the persuasion of Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, who had tweeted on trying out 3D paintings used as virtual speed breakers to avoid unnecessary requirements of speed breakers, a new sensor-based street lighting system to be completed by January 2018 is on the cards wherein light would be dimmed across non-peak traffic hours to provide for energy consumption. NDMC has claimed that Mother Teresa Crescent and Minto Road would be one of the first areas to feature such smart poles.
Beautification of Delhi's open spaces is also on NDMC's agenda by the means of vertical gardens and large-scale landscaping. Given the fact that The Delhi Urban Arts Commission (DUAC) under The Ministry of Urban Development itself has been devising an 'Art Master Plan' for Delhi since quite some time now. As a matter of fact, Lodi Colony, Shahpur Jat, and Connaught Place are some of the upmarket areas that have been flaunting aesthetic creations by artists in the form of wall art and graffiti since quite some time now.
Smart classrooms have gradually become the talk of the town too here in Delhi, with a number of private schools (largely) opting for the same, thus providing a push to e-learning, which is again in line with digitization to a certain extent.
The Safe Cities Index (a report that analyses urban safety on four main parameters: digital security, health security, infrastructure security, and personal security) has ranked Delhi 43rd amid a total of 60 cities, in its recently released 2017 report. It is a bummer that India has a long way to scale as far as citizen security is concerned, and grassroots efforts are required as far as the safety of women, children, senior citizens, and differently-abled is concerned.
As far as I can recall, a notable initiative that comes to mind is the Pink Auto Brigade, now prevalent in Noida and Gurugram.
As an area of concern, basic civic amenities also have been witnessing a positive trend with the establishment of Swachh Public Toilet Units (PTUs), a number of which sport a solar rooftop panel and sanitary pad vending machines, in addition to being accessible via Google Maps, which is by and large, an attempt to curb the menace of open defecation. Accessibility on the digital front, in general, is complemented by Vodafone's provision of a number of Free Wi-Fi Zones across the periphery of the city.
In the wake of Supreme Court's applause-worthy ruling of a blanket ban on the sale and use of crackers in Delhi, celebrating a Green Diwali is on the cards. Personally, I had shunned the practice close to a decade back, and we have since then been indulging in appreciating the twinkling of earthen lamps and fairy lights.
Contributing to the same, Vodafone Delhi has provided Super Crackers at 52 Vodafone stores in the week before the festivities commence, starting today (16 Oct -19 Oct). These Super Crackers are filled with eco-friendly plant seeds. All one needs to do is plant it and let the plant bloom. This is how the realization of 'paying back' the environment can be fruitfully witnessed.
On the whole, #CelebratingSuper is of utmost importance, be it an individual effort or a collective one. Though the road to becoming a 'Smart City' is still a long one for times to come, Delhi is certainly becoming a 'Better City' by the minute. :)
Acing The Flavors At Janpath Grill House...
Janpath Grill House Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato
Janpath is now the newest kid-on-the-block as far as restaurants are concerned. It was thus, a pleasant experience when I was invited for the new Menu tasting as a Blogger by the folks at
Janpath Grill House
The visual USP of this place has to be Delhi painted on its walls, from Jantar Mantar to Rajpath, from street food to boho-chic, from a casual shopping spree at Janpath with a world of shopping  bags by your side to foreigners admiring Indianness in the capital city.
Janpath Grill House is all about Janpath and good food offered in two concepts - patrons can opt for either Ala Carte or Buffet. However, my visit came about as a consequence of their exclusive Menu panning five Indian States - Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Delhi - under the colloquial tagline - 'Janpath Grill House - Handcrafted In-House Gourmet Specials'.
With live music going on, my time at Janpath Grill House was good enough for me to say I would love to visit a second time. The food was fantastic, the place is a crowd puller is what I could witness when I went, the service could  be a bit more pepped up in terms of quickness and alertness.
A Boondi-filled Golgappa presented atop a mini-Achaar Ki Barni was served as amuse bouche.
We savoured the following preparations in Appetisers:
  • Anjeer Aur Akhrot Ki Tikki - The first and only time I had savoured an appetiser with the same ingredients (plus Lotus Stem too) was when had pledged to Lighten Up This Diwali With Canola Oil, and such a Tikki was prepared by Chef Jolly of Masterchef fame in a live demo. I was surprised to see this on the Menu and the fact that they had aced the preparation to an extent. Good job there.
  • Bharwaan Tangri - Leg Pieces stuffed with Egg, hence Bharwaan.
  • Lahsun Aur Sarson Waali Machchi - Minimally oiled, non-spicy, soft and succulent flavorful fish.
  • Firangi Gobhi Ka Tikka - Broccoli tossed in White Sauce.
  • Galauti Kebab - Simply melt-in-mouth.
  • Dahi Ke Kebab - Yoghurt was on a high with this - had to be.
  • Parde Wali Raan - Authentic lamb preparation
All the curries were most loved and neatly presented. We had the following:
  • Sabzi Makkhanwali
  • Dadisa's Desi Murgh
  • Dal Janpath
  • Dum Aloo Banarasi
Accompanying the curries and gravies were:
  • Kathal  Biryani
  • Bread Basket
And, we rounded up a filling meal with quintessential desserts:
  • Phirni
  • Gajar Ka Halwa
All the savoury and sweet dishes were on point with their flavour and preparation factor. The presentation was also nice. The drinks, namely Kokum Sharbat and Nectarine Mojito could have been better prepared, as they lacked a bit with their flavours.
That being said, I am definitely coming back to Janpath Grill House, solely because they have aced their ambience, decor, and taste game. :)
#HIQTravellerMeetup Moved The Howrah Bridge To Delhi!
Baluchi - The Lalit New Delhi Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato
What?
The Return Of HolidayIQ's #HIQTravellerMeetup.
When?
Friday, 24 July.
Where?
The Lalit, New Delhi.
A tryst with the HolidayIQ community, yet again. Why, didn't you read about the first one, on the blog?
You must, but only after you read this one, reminiscing the ethereal experience that was yesterday! :)
"You shouldn't miss our Traveller Meetup at The Lalit, New Delhi that promises a unique Kolkata-inspired culinary experience! And, you get to meet top travellers from your city, listen to untold stories and share your own."
Thus spoke the invite, prompting me to experience the epicurean rendition of the Kolkatan cuisine, thanks to the Executive Sous Chef at Baluchi, Chef Ishika Konar, coupled with an array of travel anecdotes, from fellow travelers.
We were greeted by the Founder of HolidayIQ himself, Mr Hari Nair and the lady who supervises over all such Community Engagement initiatives with an invisible aura of cheer around her, Nihal.
Acquainting ourselves with like-minded wanderers was so absorbing that it did not take long for us to lose track of time.
An interesting story was elucidated by Hari, wherein he told all the attendees how HolidayIQ had begun as an Excel Sheet, yes the humble MS Excel, and today had grown to a community, 11 Million strong! :)
Thereafter, we were greeted by the General Manager of The Lalit, Mr. Vivek who offered a brief overview into the concept behind The Lalit, and to take us on the trail of an all artist's paradise of sorts - the art gallery which had been established, in memory of Mr. Lalit Suri.
The Baluchi welcomed us for a delightful culinary experience...
We were led onto the in-house wine cellar, access to which had been procured exclusively for members of the HIQ Community!
The restaurant boasts of certifications from Zomato and Mouthshut too.
Yet another innovative addition to the place, is an in-house Naanery - where हिंदुस्तानी Breads are prepared, not in a clay layered तंदूर, but an iron-clad one! :)
The choicest of Wines from the cellar were paired with exquisite breads from the Naanery
We relished a few unique preparations, while being seated in a round-table fashion around the Naanery itself, and introducing our respective self to fellow attendees.
See the preparation in action!
The Breads have been rolled, ready to be cooked.
Assorted selections from the Naanery! :)
Have a look at our excellently curated Menu for the day, thanks to Chef Ishika Konar. :)
~~~

I will let the food story take over from this point on. :)

Authentic Kolkatan cuisine, curated by a Sous Chef who has her roots in the same food heaven, coupled with the most enthusiastic travellers from my city, a community which loves to host us and the most pleasant hosts in the form of the hospitable staff at The Lalit! :)

What more could you possibly ask for?

One thing.

Being captured in a single frame with the lady of the evening, Chef Konar, who is one of the very few ladies of her kind, to be enjoying the position of an Executive Sous Chef in leading hotels of the country.

Here you go! :)

~~~
Of course, the customary groupfie, follows.
Standing right next to me, is the Chief, Mr Nair, and the GM of The Lalit, Mr Vivek.
I could not thank the entire team of HolidayIQ and The Lalit enough, who put in so much effort to ensure for all of us, an unforgettable experience, which would be cherished for long! :)
As is customary, we had some HIQ memorabilia to take home, along with a token of gratitude on behalf of the folks at The Lalit.
Yauatcha Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato
~~~

I spotted my favorite travel community @HolidayIQ tweeting about the #HIQTravellerMeetup - Bangalore Edition this evening.

Their tweets prompted me to reminisce the splendid execution of the Delhi Edition, which was held in April, and to which I had been invited exclusively.

It was a pepped-up afternoon spent well, with like-minded globe-trotters, over anecdotes of  travel and some innovative gastronomic delights, courtesy Yauatcha, Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj.

I will let this post be a photo-story of sorts and thus let the images do the talking. :)

That's the first click of the day, proclaiming to us, the location of our venue in the mall's premises.

One dim sum heaven, this! ;)

See? The place had been all decked up!

Listening, with rapt attention to the ideology behind the concept of HolidayIQ and the perspective of #HIQTravellerMeetup's on a pan-India basis.

In between little chit-chats, I witnessed so many sumptuous avatars of the humble dim sum.

Be prepared for some serious awe and drools, thanks to Chef Yap at Yauatcha.

Spot him grinning at the ingeniosity of his culinary masterpieces. :D

Now, for the Yauatcha trail...

There we go, with the gastronomic delights! ;) :D

And, a little surprise...

The Chinese Kettle adorned as the center of attention!

I would like to sum this post up with a token of thanks for these beautiful snaps which have been captured by the ace photographer at HolidayIQ.

Featuring Yours Truly.

One...

Peek A Boo! :)

Two...

Group-fie Fever! :)
