Tranquility In A Frame...

 ~~~
Circa 2014. Selfies became a cultural phenomenon of sorts with 'selfies' being the uncontested winner for Word of the Year 2013.
It is four years back that the selfie fever caught hold of the Indian audience with the mania for capturing the perfect selfie spreading like a syndrome. However, the advent of the trend had been called for, ever since Apple released the iPhone 4 with a reasonably good front camera for those times in 2010. Sooner than one could know, flaunting narcissism complemented by exhibiting self-proclaimed photography became a trend!  :o
Attaining perfection when it comes to capturing a selfie is a game of balance. There are a number of crucial factors among which balance is essential - be it the focus, the lighting, the number of persons in the frame, or proper framing of a scenic backdrop.
More often than not, one ends up neglecting one factor or the other. The narcissus shall then not approve of the hefty bargain as it wishes to accumulate the best of all worlds. Quantity thus outweighs the scales in search of the quintessential quality.
Simply said, the entire gallery of numerous phones was filled with captures of 'no-one else but me'. That was not necessarily bad but I needed a reality check right at the start.
Every frame has a fable to tell, or so I believe and selfies are no exception. Firsts are special too, and this memoir is about such a special 'first selfie'. The first ever selfie that I captured dates back to 2014 when I was an amateur in selfie-photography. I say 'was' because I have gradually learned the ropes and rarely falter.
Picture this. The winter of December 2014. A pleasantly sunny morning in the capital city, Delhi. A school excursion to two of the most iconic monuments - Qutub Minar and Lotus Temple.
For the uninitiated, a school picnic is the best opportunity for students as well as staff to capture memories on a formal pretext. This excursion was definitely not the first that I was accompanying students on, but it was the first where I could surely explore the selfie phenomenon.
So, among the two landmarks, first on the list was Qutub Minar. Owing to the fact that Qutub complex is a huge one, it took us quite a big chunk of time to explore the intricately carved monument and its peers located in the immediate vicinity.
It was upon reaching the Lotus Temple which is as aesthetic to look at as it is revered, that it dawned on me - we had very little time to bask in the beauty and purity of this epicenter of the Baha'i faith in the heart of the city.
As much as it had a calming effect on the nerves just by witnessing the architectural wonder in person, there was also a hollow in the heart on having to rush through the visit owing to the fact that the time allotted to parents for the pickup of students back at school was nearing.
I somehow had my Eureka moment in wanting to absorb the positive vibes radiated by this House of Worship and it then occurred to me that the ever-prevalent selfie trend could come to my rescue, albeit hurriedly.
If I had to capture my first-ever selfie at that moment, I had to act fast. However, there were a couple of hindrances blocking the way.
  • My colleagues and students were already at the head of the exit line of the premises, given the fact that all of the students had already boarded their respective buses and my colleagues were calling out for me.
  • All in all, I had the span of a few seconds to focus on and capture this precious memorabilia of a monument in the frame. The fact that the frame should also have me was tricky enough to make or break my selfie game.
  • As much as the picturesque background was set to be captured in all its glory in natural lighting, the same sunlight hindered my view of what was being captured in the frame.
  • I decided to let the monument's presence in the setting vis-a-vis my presence steal the limelight in the capture.
  • It was a make-or-break situation at that moment as I just had to capture the frame, relying solely on my instinct and rush towards the school bus without giving the final result even a glance, as there was no scope for even a second click, with the third being completely out of question.
All I did was that I boarded the vehicle with my fingers crossed. My demeanor in that situation could be compared to that of a student waiting for their Board Exam Results. Anxiety and Excitement - two-in-one.
It was on reaching home that I opened the gallery and viewed my first-ever selfie for the first time.
Voila!
Although my face clearly reflects the guesswork that was on my mind all the time, I was overjoyed to witness the symbolism of peace in all its eminence with the capture intact. However, there was a slight disruption to my joy as my face had not been completely captured.
And, it is the only imperfection that I long to correct to date. How I wished that I should have been in the possession of such a device that could provide a slightly wider-angle shot!
I had been consoling myself to date that attaining perfection in any aspect is an illusion, with the anecdote holding true for selfies as well, consoling myself that this capture was not bad at all considering that it was my first-ever attempt. However, the heart pines, as it is in a habit of doing so.
On the flip side, such a capture provided me with a much-required reality check.
SO  MANY  SELFIES.
SUCH  LITTLE  KNOWLEDGE,
OF  SELF.
I thus felt that I had managed a pretty good job out of my most precious selfie as I did not let the self reign supreme in the capture. After all, a symbolism of tranquility stands intact in the frame. Imperfections and flaws are the entities that define self, and the same had come to the fore in the capture as well.
However, it is today that I felt that my single, most frivolous concern has also been addressed. Thanks to a brand of Vietnamese origin that plans to launch itself in the Indian market tomorrow, my woe concerning this particular memoir can finally be laid to rest.
Picture an expertly crafted device boasting of a crisp design and precise technology that offers the ultimate 'Selfie Experience' thanks to a front, dual 'Selfie Camera' that captures a 120° wide-angle shot.
As a brand, Mobiistar is all set to treat the Indian audience to the best ever witnessed in the smartphone industry as they partner with Flipkart to become 'Mobiistar on Flipkart' - a range of devices that provide promising battery life with no compromise as far as affordability is concerned.
I couldn't be happier as I won't ever have to worry about fitting both the backdrop as well as the smiles precious to me, precisely in a single go.
Capturing the perfect selfie, with or without my near and dear ones up close, with the heart of the capture intact - the scenic backdrop - would be an effortless task from now on. Getting my hands on Mobiistar's exclusive devices would mean that I could the perfect selfies seamlessly.
I am all set to #EnjoyMore with #Mobiistar. :)
Je Suis Charlie...
~~~

It is an age - old adage, and a well proclaimed one, at that.

'The Pen Is Mightier Than The Sword'

Let us rephrase that to...

'The Brush Is Mightier Than The Firearms'

The tipping of scales, is very much evident!

~~~
Of course, it is the attack on Charlie Hebdo, which has shook the face of humanity, yet again.
Charlie Brown, dismayed.
Symbolic of a baffled Charlie Hebdo.
It is a middle finger to the face of the world.
By them.
Boldly.
Unashamed of all their barbaric deeds.
~~~

A bigger middle finger is being shown by the world, too.

In response to these spineless and aimless beings on the face of this earth.

Those who embrace terrorism in the name of a baseless and equally spineless concept of Jihad.

I call them Beings.

Calling them Human Beings, would be outright wrong!

For they've  defied the concept of Humanity, completely!

~~~
Human beings are people with a mind, a heart, and a soul.
These beings are devoid of all three.
Mindlessly committing themselves to blindly executing cold-blooded murders.
Heartlessly, proudly and avowedly proclaiming to the world, their heinous acts.
Soullessly, going on and on, to commit such crimes, each ghastlier and remorseless than its immediate predecessor, more often than not.
~~~

I fail to understand the driving force behind these killings.

I also fail to understand what instigates them, in the first place.

~~~
Particularly for Charlie Hebdo...
When did Humor, become a risky profession, in all seriousness?
The World Has Become So Serious That Humor Is A Risky Profession.
~~~

On second thought, the brush is indeed mightier than the firearms.

For a palette and a brush indeed threatened their very ideology.

~~~
But they forgot what was elementary...
For one finger that you point at the other person, four of those point at you too.
For one man's ink, that you draw out of his existence, an ocean of ink stands angered, to drown you, in its tsunami.
For yesterday, they were whole.
For today, you broke them.
For tomorrow, they'll rise from their ashes.
Unharmed.
And, twice as powerful.
~~~

For this is how, your bullets stand a waste.

Your acts have stirred a silent, peaceful stream.

You have created myriad ripples, which won't rest until the impact reaches the masses.

~~~
This is what you never anticipated.
This is one crime you'll regret committing.
~~~

For art, cannot be killed.

Art cannot be muted.

This ink will never run dry.

~~~
~~~

In a world which boasts of the right to freedom of speech, all such attempts to curb this freedom, will stir up a quake of activity.

All such attempts, may in all probability, prove to be futile.

~~~
It is this diabolical attitude that needs to be laid to rest.
And not some honest expression of opinions.
A thought that rings true...
'He doesn't wish to be avenged!'
~~~

Here's something to silence those arms and ammunition.

Grab Your Weapons, Mates!

There lies the power, in a unique point of view, towards all such happenings...

For this is how the masses can retaliate too...

~~~
It is the need of the hour to sensitize ourselves towards the vital concept of World Peace.
We must familiarize ourselves with the ideology behind Harmony, and not Hypocrisy.
Je Suis...
Charlie Hebdo, Satirical Weekly, Attacked in Paris...
Headlines Stared Us In Our Face, Piercing Through...
Acts Committed Avowedly, Without A Strong Basis!
Resonating Ambush Onto Free Speech - Out Of Blue!
Liveliness Rising  Like The Phoenix, Truly Invincible...
Imbibing - We Must 'Never Say Die', You Criminal...
Expression Wins Over Hatred Oh! Je Suis Charlie...
P.S. : All images in this post have been credited to the folks at ScoopWhoop.
P.P.S : This blog-post should not be treated as a blatant attack of words, on the perpetrators of this crime.
It is an expression of opinion toward the sorry state of affairs, our present world is entrapped in.
An Ode To Bapuji - In Search Of Peace...
Following Bapuji's Ideals
This is not the India - India of Bapu's dream
The India, with repute held in high esteem
With purity of conscience through its stream
Alas, a gap widening in the humble tapestry's seam!
With very modest means
In search of serene pastures, tranquil greens
With a resolute spirit, to drive the land cleans,
And a stubborn will to humbly swipe away, her crafty ambitions - The Queen's!
His was a short lived aspiration
Some sort of a reverse time dilation!
His friends were few, foes umpteen
The ones who did not wish him good, made his humility lose its sheen.
Why, in search of peace, is conscience led astray?
Why, does always, to Wrong, Right has to give way?
Will this dark stretch never be able to see the light of the day?
Will this India always have a dulled vision, surrounded by the gray?
With Corruption enjoying an incremented span, in an absolute time frame
With Honesty & Self - Respect, going up in flame!
Bringing shame to even God's Name
Such is the Contemporary Satan's perfect Game!
Only one prayer, a sincere request
In this very much unconquered quest!
A remembrance & a humble appeal
To  awaken one's conscious, to make the Motherland heal...
At Bapu's Samadhi
From A Mother To A Son...
12 Golden Precursors For A Son To Lead A Prosperous & Peaceful Marriage With His Wife Who Comes To Transform His House Into A Home...
  • No one can experience Love without a feeling of Oneness.
  • Just because someone doesn't love you in the way you expect them to, doesn't mean that they don't love you with all they have got.
  • Admire the person not for who he/she is but for who you are when you are with him/her.
  • Many marriages would be better if the husband and the wife clearly understood that They Are On The Same Side.
  • You don't need to be on the same wavelength to succeed in Marriage, you just need to be able to ride each other's waves.
  • Surrender in the form of submission may not be defeat but acceptance.
  • Peace & Happiness are not the absence of conflict from life but the ability to cope with it.
  • Never walk out on a quarrel with Your Wife as she is Your Life.
  • Nobody will ever win the Battle of the Sexes. There is too much fraternizing with the enemy.
  • The ultimate test of a relation is to disagree but still hold hands.
  • Love the person the most, when he deserves it the least because that is when they need it the most.
  • It is foolish to experience Hate when one can experience Love.
Why Only The Woman Has To Pay The Price ----- WHY?
          Why is it that our society is so insensitive towards the fairer sex? On one hand, religion and culture prevalent in our society worship Goddesses and on the other hand, females have to bear such abuses in their life that being born as a girl is thought to be a curse by them.
          Not just one but at numerous stages of her life, she has to pay the price of being a woman. WHY?
           Be it -------- even before her birth i.e. female infanticide to child abuse (either sexual or child labor or child marriage or gender discrimination among siblings for that matter) to eve teasing in her youth to dowry harassment after marriage to being asked to keep on ' adjusting & compromising ' to keep the marriage alive whether for her own sake or for her family's pride or for her children (being a concerned mother) to bear the brunt of the in-laws if she gives birth to a girl child -------- at every stage, she curses herself as to WHY! -------- WHY only she has to bear the brunt while at all the above stages it is the man who is responsible too (or perhaps he is the only one responsible).
          Let's review all the above stages to strengthen my point :-
  • Before Birth -- The female infanticide -- girl child being killed for no fault of hers -- Who was responsible for it -- the Father (male) -- His X Chromosome instead of Y decided the whole thing -- then why is she being killed! Why does not the responsible Father get the rebuke of all (if at all someone has to be killed for this stupid reason).
  • After Birth -- Child abuse -- innocent child unaware of this wild forest and carnivorous beasts roaming around -- bears the brunt -- WHY? -- Why should not these beasts be burnt?
  • Child Labor -- Missing her right to education and bearing with elderly chores -- Why should the child suffer -- Why not the Employer?
  • Child Marriage -- The girl who wishes to study and make her career -- being thrown in front of a male  in the form of a bride to bear the brunt of this ridiculous tradition at a tender age -- Why should not the parents of both the boy and the girl be punished?
  • Gender Discrimination Among Siblings -- Girls directed by the parents to be docile and boys allowed to do anything they wish to with full elan -- it is this discrimination right from childhood which later on leads to eve teasing and other abuses hurled by boys in their youth.
  • Dowry Harassment -- One of the prime evils of all times -- The girl completes the boy after marriage -- and bears his children -- then what for is she paying the dowry to him and his family?
  • After Marriage -- The wife and husband are the two pans of a  scale which should be proportionately balanced at all times -- then how come our society always expects girls to adjust to keep everything alive in their life? Why all the calmness is expected from her (and that also rewardless) and all the aggression is the birth right of the male? -- Why do men feel elated after venting out their frustration on women -- What is it that holds back men from accepting their misdeeds and correcting them gracefully?
WHY can't this gender inequality vanish in thin air for PEACE to prevail at both the ends and proper balance  be maintained in the society?
There is an urgent need to RingTheBell for all the above causes...
To guide the would - be parents not to imbalance the sex ratio and parent their boys in such a manner that they value gender equality with applause.
If Only... Let's Hope & Pray...
  • If Only our world was a world where nobody starves and all necessary facilities are available to all irrespective of caste, creed & color.
  • If All countries of the world could cooperate to eradicate misery, poverty, hunger & other human calamities.
  • If Each country could pledge and sign a no - war peace treaty and all disputes among nations could be resolved peacefully, cooperatively and non - violently so that the huge expenditure incurred on different weapons of  mass destruction could be diverted for the welfare of the citizens -- to spread education for all, health services, sanitation, awareness to make this world peaceful and worth living in for everyone.
  • If All independent states of different nations could respect freedom of the neighbouring countries and could say no to violence and destruction.
Let us hope that a day will come when good sense will prevail in this world to sign a real peace pact for the well being of all. Cooperation among all is the only key to resolving distrust among people.
The World would be a much better place to live in if each one of us has the capacity to tolerate others despite all differences.
It can wipe out even social evils like terrorism and corruption which are burning problems of today's times.
Let us pray to God to bless us with wisdom to live and let live.
Size Does Matter - But Of An EGO ? - Say No To Big One
In our childhood days, we all used to love playing with balloons - big inflated balloons. But I wonder as we grow up, does that air from those balloons enter our brains!
If not then how come percentage of persons with inflated egos is increasing day by day? What does this type of ego supply? Ego satisfaction? Does it - really?
I doubt, when I see someone zooming at a speed of  a hundred kilometers overtaking another car to feel elated but then is found standing amid other vehicles at the next red light as he doesn't have a flying gear.
Rickshaw pullers and carrier autos show off their inflated egos when they ply at 5-20 kilometers per hour but still move in right lane and don't give way to fast moving vehicles even on persistent honking by them (though they don't want to honk but have to do). Does it really satisfy their egos? I wonder - does their ego not deflate when these fast moving vehicles overtake them (although they have to do it from wrong side thanks to these stupid driver's egos).
Those pedestrians who walk in the middle of the road as if they are having their morning walk in the garden and as if they are deaf when vehicles try to warn them by honking horns - Doesn't this inflated egos of theirs at times cause them their limbs or even their lives? So what is the use of such inflated egos?
The previous day while on wheel I saw one learner in a car jumping the red light and I was confused whether it was the learner's ego to cross the road first or the trainer's ego who instead of teaching him never to do it, taught him the lesson of doing something which he himself did every now and then.
People jumping the red light when bang their vehicle in another person's vehicle who is crossing the road when the signal is green for his side, not only hurt themselves but the other person also gets hurt because of no fault of his. So has one person's inflated ego to cross the road first helped anyone? Certainly not. People read about and see such accidents so many times but still the condition is not improving.
So let go of your EGO and let PEACE prevail in everybody's life.
DECREASING the size of EGO by one person can INCREASE the happiness and peace in so many person's lives whether of his family or the society.
