When 'Stars In The City' Came Calling...

Top post on IndiBlogger.in, the community of Indian Bloggers

~~~
Does the title seem to ring a bell?
Does 'Stars In The City' remind you of a famed Meet 'n' Greet opportunity?
Does a leading daily's name resonate?
~~~

You guessed it right, Ladies and Gentlemen.

Hindustan Times it is...

Along with its daily dose of entertainment...

HT City! :D

~~~
Rewind...
To September 16, 2014.
When I'd spotted this question on @htcity's timeline...
Sent an e-mail to the said address with the required credentials...
And
Bang!
~~~

What I receive in the afternoon, is a call from one of the representatives of the National Daily's dose of entertainment!

It would be a second meeting with both of the stars...

Because, remember?

The Music Launch for the movie, held in July? :)

And, surprisingly, both of them remembered me by face! :D

~~~
The Date : 18 September 2014
The Place : HT House
The Time : 11:00 AM
~~~

The Movie was due to release on 19 September, 2014.

And, what surprised me that both Pari and Adi were on promotional stints till the last day! :D

And, even after a hectic Food Yatra spanning across North India, they were as exuberant and energetic as ever!

And, the director, Mr. Habib Faisal had come along to mark his distinguished presence too... :)

Also, you wouldn't believe when I say...

Ms. Sonal Kalra was there to interact with the stars too...

The one who's been training 'The Calmer You' within us? ;)

~~~
Here is a picture for you to take a glimpse at what the Stage was set for, that afternoon...
~~~

And, how Bolly-ish the ambiance was, at the Music Room by Fever 104...

~~~
Also, how keenly, both Parineeti and Aditya were engaged in the conversation, with Sonal, and with all of us...
~~~

Parineeti had made it clear - She didn't want any run-of-the-mill questions thrown at them, she said they'd bounce back!

She wanted some unique and special questions...

And I, along with the other winners of the Meet 'n' Greet were asked to pen down one question each, for either Adi or Pari. :)

~~~
As always, one question going on through your mind, right now...
What did I ask them? :D
~~~

I'd initially written down one question for Aditya Roy Kapur...

'How different does his life feel after Stardom?
How does he deal with it?'

To which he gave a fitting reply, which was featured in HT City's edition dated October 3.
The moment I saw the caption - 'I Miss The Anonymity...', I was sure that it was the reply to my question which was being elaborated upon.

~~~
Actor Aditya Roy Kapoor says that he is still trying to deal with the do's and don'ts that come with stardom.
"I am trying to fight it all the time.. I used to go for a jog near Bandra or Carter Road (in Mumbai) which is crowded and there were days when there were around 50 people running behind me, so I learned it the hard way. It's unfortunate because it takes away other dimensions of your life that are so beautiful and necessary," he says.
The 28-year-old says that however hard he tries, it becomes very difficult at times. "It is stressing to find that sometimes you just can't go and have a meal with your friend without being able to slouch. I miss the anonymity of just playing cricket with my friends.
So it's sad, but sometimes I don't care and behave how I want to. I can wear a crumpled shirt and think that let them call me homeless I will still be fine. You can't live your life to please anyone. Sometimes you do try to find that balance," he adds.
~~~

This was the word-to-word reply indeed! :D

~~~
But, I also ended up asking Parineeti, a unique and special question, as she'd labelled it...
'You're a Libran and I am a Libran too.
If you could list out the Librans, you know, from the Film Fraternity?'
And, the thunderous applause that followed for this question, which literally stumped her, made my day! ^_^
Of course, she could name the one and only, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, whose birthday it is, the day I'm posting this coverage, October 11.
And, since Gandhi Jayanti was round the corner, on October 2, she mentioned the Father of the Nation, too.
To which, Adi retorted, 'He's not from Bollywood!' :P
And Pari said, So what?
He's a Libran na? :P
I ended up listing quite a few Librans from the Industry too. :)
Apart from Mr. Bachchan and Pari, of course.
The Nightingale, Ms. Lata Mangeshkar was one.
Mr. Ranbir Kapoor,
Ms. Rekha,
Ms. Hema Malini,
Mehmood,
Mr. Dev Anand,
Mr. Om Puri,
Mr. Shammi Kapoor,
Ms. Asha Parekh...
To list a few. :)
~~~

Before bidding adieu...

'First let me take a selfie!' and autograph signing took place...

Not to mention, this group picture which was featured...

On Page 4 of HT City's Delhi Edition, dated September 20, 2014...

~~~
Spot me standing right in front, next to Parineeti, in Blue... :)
~~~

And, this cute DEI Tee, and Autographed Music CD's which were handed out to us...

~~~
The entire interaction with Sonal, was posted by HT's Youtube Channel.
Have a look.
~~~

An Afternoon Well Spent.

Very Well Spent! :)

Here You Go...

The Official Music Launch Of Daawat - e - Ishq...

But, before you do...

Here's a little peek...

~~~
Point 1 : The Girl With Her Autograph Book, which Aditya and Pari are signing, is Charu...
Point 2 : From 0.50 to 3.20, The First Question Being Answered, Was Charu's...
Point 3 : Do NOT Miss Pari Singing The Title Track, Towards The End...
Charu had prompted both of them to sing 'Daawat', to which Pari agreed and Aditya cheered on, while another lady had requested him to sing Tum Hi Ho, instead.
Also, Pari had admitted that she had a Four Seconds Of Dance in the song, for which she was angry with Mr, Faisal, as all of the gentlemen used to rehearse and give their shot, while she had to look on... :D
Though, I believe that her voice has a unique musical ability, and that she should consider pursuing Singing too. :)
Point 4 : Charu says, all the others must have struggled in the Stampede, for their Snaps and Signatures...
While She...
Received These...
Revisiting The 'Mardaani' In MY Family Tree...
Top post on IndiBlogger.in, the community of Indian Bloggers
~~~

The Two Ladies I'm Going To Introduce To You Today...

Have Made An Appearance On The Blog, In The Past Too...

Just That, Whenever I Sit To Reflect...

On The Wonders Girl Power Can Do...

I'm Reminded To Glance At My Roots...

Look Up To My Family Tree...

Because I'm A Proud 'Bua'...

To Not One...

But Two Such Epitomes Of Strength, Courage And Success...

Who Are A True 'Mardaani' In Every Sense Of The Word!

~~~
My association with them began through my Mother - Ms. Rajjeet Malhotra - who took up the name of Mrs. Shanta Mehta after marriage.
As, it was through her, that I formed my relationship with my maternal uncle - Mr. Balbir Malhotra.
 Mr. Ashok Kumar Mahotra, was her nephew, my first cousin, and father to these two ladies - the true 'Mardaani'.
Though he was my 'Veer Ji' as I fondly called him, not only because he was elder to me, but also because he was younger to my Mother by 11 years.
~~~

And, Mr. Ashok Kumar Malhotra - My 'Veer Ji' was the Founder Chairman of the iconic 'Malhotra Book Depot', which has its roots in Punjab since 1956, and has had the capacity to spread its reach all over India, and Worldwide, as well.

Mr. Ashok Kumar Malhotra.

~~~
And so, my entrepreneur nieces, Ms. Monica Malhotra Kandhari and Ms. Sonica Malhotra Kandhari or 'Mona' and 'Sona' as I fondly address them, did the family proud - in every walk of life they pursued, in every initiative they took up, in every which way possible...
That Is The Cute & Charismatic Mona...
Seen Here As The Budding Artiste!
Being born into such a prestigious blood line, boasting of the Chronicles of Leadership, coming from their father, both the girls exhibited qualities of Dedication, Hard Work, Efficiency and Perfectionism, in every task they took up, in their respective lives.
The fact that they were 'Heiresses' and not 'Heirs' to such a Titan Empire, as should have been back in those times, in an orthodox society, did not deter them from advancing towards their Aims in life.
Rather, their Will-Power and Determination always found a new soil, a new ground and a new pillar to support and strengthen their objectives.
Both my nieces were able to carve their independent and flawless niches and never had to rely on their surname - the tag of being a Malhotra - in those times of extreme patriarchal dominance.
I still remember how they used to accompany 'Veer Ji' to their Head Office at Gulab Bhavan, and how they used to boss around in their own innocent, yet mature ways! :D
While Monica, armed with a Commerce background, advanced ahead to acquire her graduation degree in B.Com (H) from Jesus and Mary College, along with a post graduate diploma in Kathak from Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, Sonica accompanied her elder sister with an MBA in Finance from The Harvard Business School .
Both, very courageously, followed in their Father's footsteps, in order to expand the Business, and take the Empire forward, scaling new heights.
~~~

All went Hunky - Dory...

Until 2009.

Unfortunately, 2009 was an ominous year for all of us.
We all were taken aback with the untimely demise of my Mother on September 30 and my 'Veer Ji' on December 30 - all at a gap of 3 months, attributed to different reasons, altogether.

They say, God has his own ways...

Everyone in the family opined that it would be difficult for both Monica & Sonica to handle all their businesses single handed.

But, The Ladies Beat Us!

And How!

Their 'Never Say Die' spirit, the courage to put up a brave face against all odds, against the loss of two very dear relationships, against the emotional, psychological and even physical stresses they were facing as a consequence of such nerve-wrecking tragedies, against their Empire which stood against a Dead End at that moment, with their Guiding Light having merged into the Divine Light and against our opinions, even, made them emerge as True Winners, against the Road-blocks, life had presented them with.

Like A True Mardaani, They Made A Difference...

To Their Dear Ones...

To The Family...

To Their Social Circle...

When It Was...

Needed The Most...

~~~
They did not shy away from the harsh realities of life.
Nor, did they lose hope.
They were quick to adapt to such tremendous changes, as the Year 2009 had brought.
They were quick to make life - changing decisions - in the blink of an eye.
They endeavored in the search of a New, Bright Tomorrow.
And So...
Their agility and sensibility bore fruit...
They were the ones to bravely break away the Stereotypes, to stand up and speak for the Change in the mindset of an orthodox society, and to bring about, a freshness, in their way of handling the Businesses, very efficiently.
Monica took over as the Senior Executive Director & Sonica as the Executive Director of MBD Group in January 2010, with their Mother, Mrs. Satish Malhotra presiding over as an able Chairman.
My Lovely Nieces.
Under the blessings of my Veer Ji...
Four Years Hence, There's Been No Looking Back.
Under the vision as encompassed by 'Veer Ji' - "For every literate person, there would be an MBD product.", the Group that started off as a small Publication House - expanded itself into the Largest Publishing House in India - while spreading far and wide, foraying into the Hospitality Sector by partnering with The Radisson - as MBD Radisson Blu, Noida, now headed by Sona.
While Mona took charge of diversifying into Paper Manufacturing & E-Learning by introducing MBD Alchemie, Sona now heads the Retail and Real Estate Sectors with MBD Neopolis at Jalandhar & Ludhiana and MBD Zephyr at Bangalore.
MBD | Neopolis Mall
At The Helm Of Luxurious Living, MBD | Zephyr!
I also take pride in stating that they are walking on the progressive path to success by expanding all their businesses with great elan – With their Publishing Department - managing more than 10,000 employees, with more than 36 branch offices, 1,000 distributors and 10,000 booksellers across the country.
The Paper Manufacturing & Publication Unit has also expanded to manufacturing recycled eco - friendly notebooks under the brand name of MBD WriteWell - We Preserve Nature.
 Holy Faith International, Oxbridge & Modern Publishers (a sister imprint of HFI).
Holy Faith International - MBD Publishers...
Small Footprints Can Make A Big Difference - The WriteWell Series...
With both Mona & Sona having brought prestige to the Group, to the Empire and to the Family, having bagged Awards of the likes of  'IMM Top Women Entrepreneur Awards' by the Institute of Marketing Management and the 'Young Achiever Award 2006', 'Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award 2007', 'Naari Shakti Sammaan 2011' by The Adhaar Foundation, and even The Women Entrepreneur of the Year, shared by both the sisters in 2011...
Monica, receiving yet another Accolade.
Sonica, Jubilant as ever, on another achievement.
As 'Actions speak louder than Words'...
So do 'Achievements speak louder than Ideas'...
Their Effort Stands Testimony To Their Efficiency...
To The Flawless Expansion Of The Malhotra Empire.
~~~

They have been the epitome of inspiration for all the Women of our Family...

They have shown their mettle and aptly proved that women can successfully, not only sustain, but also carry forward their father’s legacy.

Because, for us...

They both have been...

A True...

Malhotra Sisters, As They Are Addressed, Socially...
Acquiring That Baton Of Responsibilities, Quite Early...
Reaffirming Their Strength In The Face Of Tragedies...
Destroying Those Stereotypes In All Their Capacities...
Administering The Final Rites Of The Loved Patriarch...
Anchoring Sails Of An Empire Under Their Matriarch...
Negotiating With That Much Needed Tide Of Change...
Illustrating A Wonder Of 'Girl Power', It Isn't Strange!

A Story Of Two Happy - Go - Lucky Comrades Who Come To Be Known As
GUNDAY!

Two Make Merry In The City Of Joy!

~~~
Two orphans who become 'Gunday' to survive in the cruel world where they have none to guide them and all to humiliate and exploit them - both mentally and physically.
In the course of life, the basic difference in their natures i.e. Bikram (Ranveer Singh) being calm like a diamond and Bala (Arjun Kapoor) being impulsive & aggressive like burning coal - leads them through lots of twists and turns and taking viewers on a roller - coaster ride of emotions...
The film also depicts the reality of life - innocence and blind faith mostly push a person into trouble - many a times - like their love for Nandita (Priyanka Chopra) and trust in Himanshu (Anant Sharma) led them to face many downs in their lives.
Director - Writer Ali Abbas Zafar has conceptualized and executed some of the scenes well.
  • When Nandita stirs Bala's conscience saying that he could never win her as he was very different from Bikram and as she moves out, there is a mirror in front of Bala reflecting his image. The song Saiyaan has heart touching lyrics and follows right after.
'इन गुंडों के तेवर कुछ अलग हैं।'
  • This fact reflecting on their attitude is depicted very well right from their childhood when they find a way out to feed themselves.
By stealing coal from a train, selling it to their ex-employer - a shopkeeper, earning Rs. 2 from him for 20 kg coal whereas the market rate was Rs.2 for 10 kg coal and...
Bala says...
'पैसे उठा के हाथ में रख!'
To which the shopkeeper is baffled...
'रख दो दादा। इसके तेवर अलग हैं!'
The shopkeeper hands over two Re. 1 coins to Bala, out of which he returns one, keeping with them only Re. 1 and says...
'ये उस कप प्लेट कि भरपाई जो उस दिन टूट गए थे!'
...For the porcelain cups and saucers they had broken the other day and as a punishment for which they were slapped and thrown out.
...And plants a thrashing on the shopkeeper's cheek.
'आगे से कप प्लेट टूटने पे एक छोटे बच्चे को डांटने से पहले इस छोटे का बड़ा सा झापड़ ध्यान में रखना।'
And our child - heroes exit the scene, equating and settling their score!
  • The crack slowly starts appearing in the comrades' relations...
    When Bala burns down Bikram's share of factories in a fit of rage...
    And Bikram's face from their joint portrait gets burnt down as well.
    ~~~
Coming to the dialogues...

  • Bikram's signature 'अंगूठा लगवा ले!' is positioned at the right instances which lays appropriate weight to the scene.
However, a turning point comes when Bala prompts him to say 'अंगूठा लगवा ले!' and he says 'झापड़ लगवाएगा क्या?' instead.

Those of my readers who would have watched the movie would be perfectly able to recall when, why and in which circumstances.

To those who haven't, I would not like to break the suspense.
One line of advice - 'Go Watch It!'

  • 'किस्मत कि एक खूबी है - कि वो पलटती है - और बहुत जल्दी पलटती है!' - Says ACP Satyajit Sarkar (Irrfan Khan) - pointing to the crux of the web he had woven to end B & B's regime!

    ~~~
The music score of the movie is fitting for various moods and situations in the flow of the feature is elevated by appropriate compositions by Sohail Sen (of 'What's Your Rashee?' fame) and fitting lyrics by Irshad Kamil.
~~~

Gunday, as a film from YRF is a mix and match of Sholay (depicting a fraternal bond between two comrades determined to conquer the world sans any oppression), Zanjeer (displaying a cop's cool and strategic outlook towards countering the outlaws) and Kala Patthar (with inputs from Yash Ji himself - Adi wanted to shoot in the coal mines of Dhanbad - which happened in Gunday!)

~~~
The most important parallel in the movie is drawn between instances from Ramayana and stills from the film.
Nandita compares herself to Sita and Bikram to Ram and Bala abducts him saying - 'सीता हरण तो आप भूल ही गईं मैडम!'
Also, when in the climax, both the friends unite, symbolizing 'भरत मिलाप'.
~~~

All in all, Gunday is a gem from the house of YRF and deserves a 3.5 Stars from my side!

Looking forward to your agreements to my opinions and deviations from it, as may be the case.

Gunday Is A Must Watch, I Opine!

~~~
