A Blast From The Past With #YaaronKiBaraat...

Good friends are hard to find, harder to leave and impossible to forget. As far as the concept of friendship is concerned, I believe it to be a rocky path, for the core of a relationship between two individuals is always put to test through thick and thin and being friends with a person who comes across as a stranger at first is no easy task. More often than not, we end up befriending foes in the skin of friends, ultimately learning from bad or poor judgement of the multiple facets to an individual's personality.

As far my brain's blind spot takes me, the fondest and most cherished memories that I have of pleasant times with good friends dates back to two phases of my life - to my college days and to the early days of when I had joined the teaching profession - the latter being as early as stepping out of college and immediately stepping into the profession which has been with me since three decades. While I defy the popular notion of naivety by having befriended wolves concealed in sheepskin multiple times over, it is also true that I've kept it a low-key affair throughout, as far as friendship is concerned, by having a close-knit circle of the three of us.

When I navigate through the memory maze to recall, I am taken back to the times when we had to pen our dissertation for my M.Sc.(Anthropology), researching on the growth pattern and physical characteristics of Pahadi natives.

I have always been a well-read individual taking interest in and performing my best all through my academics. For me, it was never rote that worked, but my grasp on concepts in the subject of my liking.

While I may (and always have) come across a bookworm-like geeky nerd to all the fun-loving divas and hunks, devising pranks, gossiping and taking advantage of another person's humility have never been my cup of tea (or coffee) and it is the sole reason that I have taken pride in solitude, never loneliness.

My principle in life has been clear as a crystal - The lion(ess) walks alone while the sheep (wolves) flock together. I am of the opinion that it is not always necessary to be surrounded to be valued, and it is true that I had as many (or lesser) friends, enough to count on my fingers, for it was not easy for me to gel well with people whose point of view did not resonate with mine or whose ideals took an entirely different trajectory as opposed to mine.

My circle of friends was not a #YaaronKiBaraat in the true sense of the phrase. Neither do I believe that a #YaaronKiBaraat has to be pivotal to your survival in society. But, if you have been part of one, or pride in having maintained a #YaaronKiBaarat in your circle, I need to take tips from you on the art of pleasing everyone, for sure.

It was during my college years that I came across two ladies who I believe, mirrored my thought process, and it is then that we gelled well - getting to know each other, sharing similar experiences from the past, and reacting in a unanimous fashion to situations, being each others pillar of support, and as far as I can recall - never having faced a bone of contention. It is this commendable sync of ideologies that I miss, now that we have drifted apart - in distance and time - never in hearts, though.

The other anecdote of friendship from my life was with a colleague, who became a dear friend in the long run. From having joined the profession of teaching together at the age of 22, to mastering in the same discipline in academics, to sharing the same birthday month and even the same name, we had many things in common for this particular friendship to work.

Why I'm recalling these two episodes from my life is because I noticed that #YaaronKiBaraat - Celebrating Friendships, a new initiative by Zee TV, hosted by Sajid Khan and Riteish Deshmukh is going to air on weekends, beginning tomorrow with the iconic pair of Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha gracing the stage together for their maiden episode.

I hope that this series turns out to be a roller-coaster ride of sorts, with celebs recalling their pleasant blast from the past as I have, through this post on my blog.

It's Buddy Parenting All The Way!

'Buddy Parenting' - the GenX term.
Yes.

I say it is a GenX term, because it is like a new slang, familiarizing the youth and the new parents of the nation with a concept which has gradually made a place for itself and hogged the limelight into the rhetoric mindset of the quintessential Indian.

I believe that the ideology has been co-existing with the Indian mantras of parenting, albeit hidden, latent. Just like a seed planted into the earth, the idea of befriending one's child sprouted and bloomed into a flower which was greeted with open arms on the Indian soil.

From being a daughter to my parents who have been my friends before being my guardians, by being my first mentors and confidantes, to being a parent to my daughter, as a friend, philosopher, mentor and guide, I have come a long way as an individual.

Taking cue from the parenting style of my parents, which I like to call "friendly parenting", coupled with the attributes of discipline and courteousness, I too have evolved as a parent and embraced the parenting style which the world calls as 'buddy parenting'.

Even as a teacher, the importance which I lay upon an interactive classroom environment is paramount.

It is the same essence of interactivity which I attempt to imbibe in the environment at home. For, I have understood that it is interaction which leads to the well-developed personality of a child as opposed to blatant instruction.

~~~
I would like to put forth episodes and anecdotes from our journey as a mother-daughter duo which would aid you in seeing the scenario from my perspective.
Picture a three-year-old toddler standing at the threshold of stepping into the ocean of wisdom and knowledge with open arms.
Albeit, like a tiny chick hesitant enough to spread its wings to embrace the infinitive sky.
As we all know, innocent minds are most impressionistic. Incidentally, there was a playschool just opposite to our house. However, it was not the one which my daughter had been admitted to.
There was a three-year-old boy attending that playschool who used to whine his way out of his hesitation to be rendered away from his parents, even if it were for a span of two hours.
I felt the same hesitation and nervousness creeping into and gripping my child's limbs, on her first day of school. However unlike those parents forcing their child into the premises of the school, aided by incessant crying by the boy, I gave her the same example of that baby bird which soars high into the sky and masters the skill of taking flight. I reassured her of her teachers being motherly to her, and her school being her second home.
Moreover, she was delighted to learn that I would always be by her side to patiently listen to her adventures as a new student. Sharing those experiences of each new day was a routine, fun exploration, and never did I see that hesitation overshadowing my child's exuberance! :)
~~~

Picture a child attending primary school now. What accompanies the experience of being enrolled into a school which follows the conventional timing of eight in the morn to two in the noon is the routine of observing summer and winter vacations in a time period, termed as the academic year.

From reviewing the daily notes in the School Diary, regarding the homework reminders, or the notes of appreciation, or the notifications of an upcoming Parent-Teacher Meeting, or even when there were occasional silly mistakes marked in red in an assignment, by the teacher for my child to observe, correct and improve on her own, like a kid stumbling repeatedly before she learnt to walk, to working together as a team on innumerable school projects - an appreciative 'V.Good' on which would enliven both our faces with smiles, we have come a long way as each other's support.

Even without a 'V.Good' at times, it was the experience which she gained and the effort that we both put in as a team, which made her excel in all future conduct! :)

~~~
Picture now, an adolescent facing emotional, mental and physical imbalance owing to the onset of puberty. Well, I have always been vocal about how important it is to embrace bodily changes, both as a teacher to my students and as a mother to my daughter.
The vocal expression is evident as a blogger as well!
After all, when your designation at school is that of a 'Biology Teacher', the dreaded S-word, M-word and the P-word make their way into your annual lesson plan in the Teacher's Diary, don't they?
Even otherwise, it was my responsibility as a mother to acquaint my daughter with the hormones causing havoc inside her. After all, it is her body, and she deserves to explore the differences which were being caused in her behavior, owing to reasons which she was unable to understand.
The vocabulary was not dreaded anymore, at home, as dreaded it is on the social front.
We keep believing and reiterating that Periods are not Taboo! :)
~~~

Picture now, a fifteen-year-old facing a fork in the road - the most crucial divergence to the path less frequented. The choice of streams, the array of careers to choose from. Not abiding by the imposition of the parent's wish on the child diktat, my mantra was to keep it subtle and simple, by helping my child channel her focus towards a singular discipline.

Chalking out the fields of interest, weighing them by the positives and supposed negatives of each, and successfully avoiding the tradeoff between the fascination of an engrossing subject and forced pursuit of a compulsive specialization for a child, is what has led my child on the path to achieve her dreams! :)

Kellogg's Chocos helps in creating ‘ख़ुशी के पल’ between parent and child, so much so that they become pals! :)

This philosophy is articulated as ‘खुल जाए बचपन’. ‘खुल जाए बचपन’ is about being unfettered and fearless.

‘खुल जाए बचपन’ is about empowerment, not being authoritative and thus letting kids be kids.

‘खुल जाए बचपन’ is symbolic of ‘unlocking’ the way childhood should be.

These and many more ‘bonding moments’ make learning fun and create a happy and secure childhood.

We Will Face It #Together...

Family.

Friends.

One is a six-letter word.

The other is a seven-letter word.

~~~
One statement has been heard, said and passed on from and to countless generations.
Friends are the family you choose for yourself.
~~~

As a matter of fact, it is another word that binds these two words - #together.

As a matter of fact, your family and your friends form the two scales of a balance.

You, my friend, are the essential pivot, which must attempt to hold the balance, intact.

For you may be faced with hiccups, many.

It is through these hiccups that you must attempt to emerge from.

It is through these hiccups that your family and your friends hold you steady.

~~~
It is true that life is not a bed of roses.
It is also true that life is not a bed of thorns either.
You pluck the rose with the thorn, at all times.
~~~

There are some moments in life when you are forced to look deep down into the valley of despair,

It is at this time, that you need a support system in place.

Your support system could be formed by your family or your friends, or both! :)

This support system could then broaden your perspective and expand your field of view to look high up to the mountain peaks and the boundless skies.

~~~
More often than not, it is the thought that counts.
More, often than not, the fact that somebody's there by your side, is most comforting.
The reassurance that you have a shoulder to rest your heavy head upon, post a depressing day at work or after an out and out horrid sequence of events ransacking your personal life, is most hopeful.
~~~

I am sure all of us must have had such moments in life.

No matter how much we try to deny having seen the dark face of situations.

They exist as a part and parcel of life.

~~~
There have been numerous such moments in my life too.
I believe in keeping such trifles at bay, to prevent them from diverting my attention from the happier pursuits and brighter horizons in life.
For facing all such situations with a certain confidence and unmatched grace, my go-to person had been my mother.
For all of the seventy-three years of her existence, she had been my pillar of strength.
She used to catapult me back to the 'battleground' with renewed courage, thoughtfulness and a never-say-die spirit.
~~~

Such memorable interactions have been many.

All of them are as fresh as rain-drenched leaves in my memory.

But the day she left us alone, is the day I broke down in the true sense.

~~~
The entire week was then spent in revisiting the forlorn lanes of monochrome.
The entire week was then spent in reflecting upon life's ways and its transience.
~~~

The entire family resolved to look at the silver lining in the dark cloud that had encompassed us.

It did not take us long to then realize, that as a family - we'll face it #together.

~~~
Today, she is our angel, protecting us from above!
For, as a family, we are always #together! :)
Inspired By Their Zest...
Top post on IndiBlogger.in, the community of Indian Bloggers
~~~

At The Mention Of The Word 'Zest'...

I Am Reminded....

Of Spontaneity...

Of Vigor...

Of Energy...

Of Reflexive Action...

Of LIFE!

~~~
I'm Reminded Of...
Certain Emotions...
Certain People...
Who've Added That Zest To MY Life...
Without Which, It Would Have Been Dull And Monotonous...
Without Which...
The Life In Me...
Would Have Been Lifeless...
In Its Entirety!
~~~

The First People, Who've Been Filled With 'Zest', All Their Life...

And, Who've Added The Same Stroke Of Liveliness...

To My Artistry...

My Parents...

Just One, of the many 'Zest' Moments in our lives...

This one goes out to my Parents for wholeheartedly but effortless, having taught us - both my brother and me - to live life to the fullest...

Celebrating each little Occasion with the Grandeur, the Vigor and the Zest it deserves...

Never letting go of an opportune moment in our lives... :)

~~~
The One Whose Face Flashes In My Mind, Next Is...
My Husband...
Each Moment Spent Together...
Is An Experience...
On How We've Spent Life...
All In All, There Have Been...
Joyous Memories - Like The One, Above.
Not So Joyous, Testing Times - When Some Calamity Befalls The Family.
Disagreements - Well, Who Doesn't Have Them In Their Marital Or Familial Life?
So Do We! :)
Adventures - Each New Day, Is A Zestful One, With Him, By My Side...
And, All Of These Incidents Reiterate The Fact That...
We've To Row Along In The Same Boat, Called Life...
With The Same Perseverance & Zest...
Every Single Day! :)
~~~

Next, Comes Familial Bliss...

And, With That...

Comes...

My Daughter...

Are you able to spot that mischievous yet spontaneous yet Zestful look in her eyes?

Each day has been a New Learning, from her!

The way she always wants to be the First One to try something new, among her peer group, reminds me of the Child-like curiosity that ought to be an inseparable part of the Zest in Life...

The way she states a New Perspective to each situation, faced by the family - A perspective which none of the others could have thought of - That's Her!

The way she prompts me, with her unique take on each of my blog-posts before I even pen them down...

I'm awe-struck each time, by her Passionate Zest towards living Life! :)

~~~
Now, I Go Over To...
My Friends...
My relationship with my friends had been as memorable as that with my teachers...
It is with them that I learnt the importance of Team Work & Time Management...
Not to miss out on the fun we had, during this Field Trip, in my college days, at Ranikhet, Uttrakhand.
The 'Fabulous Five' as we used to address our Group as - was formed in X Standard in school and parted ways when we went on to pursue our respective Masters in five different states of India...
Quite a divine coincidence, that the Number 5 has stood Testimony, to our long lasting friendship...
So much so, that we still interact with each other through 'Letters'!
Much Like Pen Friends...
I feel that our Friendship has raised the bar for all of us, in our lives! :)
~~~

My Irre'Zest'ible Five Would Not Be Complete...

Until I Give It Away, To...

My Students...

Ever since I've begun with my teaching career back in July 1986, my life as a Teacher, has been filled with moments of Pride, for my Students, and their achievements...

Each Teacher's Day Celebration is filled with Zest, as each year, I unleash, and I'm amazed at my students' Creativity, Effort and Respect towards the Teacher in me...

And, So, I can't help but mention how my students make each day at work, even more Zestful and Enjoyable!

Even today, when they meet me at Alumni gatherings, or even at any other Events, as such, my heart swells with Pride...

To see, how far they've gone in their respective lives, with each of their unique Success Stories! :)

~~~
After All, They Are, My Five, My...
Zealous, It Is Their Own Approach Towards Life...
Explaining To Me, Their Experiences, About Life...
Striving Energetically, To Live Life To The Fullest...
Thanks To Their Passion --- Which Is My Fullness!
Narrating An "Unresting Vethal's" Tale This Christmas...
Top post on IndiBlogger.in, the community of Indian Bloggers
~~~

'Every Drop Of A Pin And Every Sneeze Gets Written About,
How Else Can I Keep This Going?'

~~~
This is how a humble blog started in July 2011 greets a new reader - Me.
How Do I Discover A New Space, You Ask?
~~~

The first glance through a couple of posts itself makes me feel that the blogger is a lady, and a family's lady at that!

And, my instinct, my gut feeling, never ceases to amaze me!

A lady blogger based in Bangalore at The Vampire Speaks going by an interesting pen name of Vethal from 'Vikram-Vetaal' fame, she is!

Her blog site's 'About' Page says she opines that Vethal is an apt name, being neither on land, nor in air...

According to her, life is composed of 'fire and freeze' moments, angel - like and venom spewing!
Apt and interesting, I must say!

Her writing reflects her love, care and responsibility towards family, including her 4 year old tiny - tot...

However, she also devotes her time to expressions towards Indian festivals - revealing her festive, joyful side...

All in all, I would like to keep it short and sweet by saying that 'Vethal' has taken the term 'personal space' to new heights...

Happy to have 'Vethal' included in my blog-o-sphere circle as well! :)

~~~
Merry Christmas Everyone!
May This New Year Bring New Beginnings For All!
It Was Fun Tinkering Around As A Secret Elf For A New Friend! :)
