Bloodless Innovation To Diagnose Malaria Fever...

Sometimes, a number of initiatives and innovations make the whole world come across as one family. Case in point, a youth in Uganda has accepted the challenge to do something significant for humankind.

This 24-year-old engineer from Uganda, Brian Gitta, has invented a faster and low-cost method to test malaria fever symptoms in a patient. For this incredible achievement, Brian has won Africa’s top award for innovation in engineering.

The prize by the UK Royal Academy of Engineering for Africa aims to develop the entrepreneurial and innovative skills of engineers. These kinds of initiatives definitely motivate and inculcate creative skills in youth to focus on and tackle some of the world’s most challenging problems in any field. The young innovators who identify such challenges dedicate themselves to work towards finding out an optimum and most feasible solution that caters to masses.

The first thing that would come to anybody’s mind is what makes his invention unique and better than previous testing methods. The answer is quite simple. This new testing method to diagnose malaria symptoms in a patient is completely bloodless. In fact, there is no need for a fresh blood sample at all in this testing method.

Rather the device has an ability to identify deforming red blood cells (RBCs) in the body that indicate the presence of malaria parasite. What happens actually is the parasite takes charge of the vacuoles in red blood cells in the patient’s body when he or she gets infected. This results in a change in the cell’s shape.

The new testing device diagnoses this change in the body of the patient without taking a blood sample. Its functioning is quite simple too. It needs just to clip the device onto a patient’s finger to diagnose malaria fever symptoms.

A red beam of light then scans for changes in red blood cells in the body. These changes could be in the color, shape, and concentration of the RBCs. Another plus point of this device is its use that is quite simple and doesn’t require any specialist to operate. Once clipped on a patient’s finger, the device produces results within a few minutes.

The device delivers the test results immediately to the patient’s cell phone. These wonderful and innovative features make this device so simple that it becomes ideally the most suitable for remote areas that lack proper healthcare facilities.

That means remote rural areas will get benefited the most where a lot of lives are lost just because of lack of facilities or facilities being too far from their areas that it would take a lot of time to visit those locations.

Given lack of diagnosis of malaria fever symptoms, a patient doesn’t receive the right treatment in time. A lack of transport facilities in such areas further deteriorates the cases because of loss of precious time and attention a patient needs. Gitta has named this device ‘Matibabu’ meaning ‘treatment’ in Swahili. The device to detect and identify signs and symptoms of malaria has thus become a point of discussion in the global arena in no time.

In all other instances, it is always better to use products by reliable brands like Goodknight to keep mosquitoes at bay and avoid diseases like malaria. :)

Universities Of The Future With Pranab Mukherjee...

Shri Pranab Mukherjee, President of India today inaugurated an international conference themed as “Universities of the Future: Knowledge Innovations and Responsibility’’ at O. P.  Jindal Global University (JGU). The 3-day conference hosted by the university is being held from 18-20th of March 2017.

The conference which seeks to examine the future of Indian universities in the 21st century is being organized by the International Institute for Higher Education Research and Capacity Building (IIHEd), O. P. Jindal Global University. It recognizes that while individual scholars have reached global excellence, the Indian university, as an institution requires essential reforms to acquire the intellectual status and eminence.

The inaugural was a landmark event graced by a host of distinguished guests notably Professor Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor of Haryana; Shri Rambilas Sharma, Minister of Education, Government of Haryana; Smt. Kavita Jain, Minister for Women and Child Development; Shri Ramesh Chander Kaushik, Member of Parliament, Sonepat and other eminent personalities.

Speaking on occasion, Shri Pranab Mukherjee said, “Knowledge mobilization through quality higher education is pivotal to the socio-economic development of a nation. Innovation and futuristic universities are the driving force behind this. There is an urgent need to improve the education system in terms of the quality of instruction, faculty, research and capacity building.”

The President lamented that no Indian university figures in the top 200 universities in the world. Transforming universities into centers of excellence is the key challenge policy-maker and academic leaders face. Educational institutions have to gear up to face the socio-economic challenge the country is facing in terms of job creation. The ‘demographic dividend’ in our country has to be tapped with the help of these educational institutions, which will have to be holistic, value-based, skill-intensive and technologically advanced. He stressed that the future of higher education lies in the increased use of IT through innovation and futuristic teaching.

The President said, “Quality, affordability, and accessibility are the three cornerstones of higher education which need to be understood in the Indian context. Our universities need to actively pursue linkages with the best universities in the world to ensure student mobility, collaborative research, and joint projects.” He also emphasized on the linkages between education and industry and said, “Innovation should be linked to the market.  Through collaborative work and international knowledge exchange, educational institutes can build a larger influence in the international education arena.’’

Speaking to an eminent gathering Shree Rambilas Sharma, Education Minister, Haryana said, “Knowledge, innovation, and responsibility have been Indian patents since ancient times. Knowledge is not only our past but is our future.”

Welcoming the first citizen of India to the JGU campus, Mr. Naveen Jindal, the Founding Chancellor, of the University said, “We are proud and honored to have the President of the country inaugurate this conference. It is a rare fortune for us at JGU to have him in our midst. He is at our campus for the second time today. His first visit was in March 2013 for the Conference on ‘The Future of Indian Universities,’ a moment vividly remembered as one of the most inspiring in the institution’s history”.

Talking of Universities of the Future, Naveen Jindal said, “In this context, three reform initiatives are imperative. First is to debate the option of a four-year undergraduate programme. Even as our universities churn out thousands of graduates every year, serious questions are often raised about their employability. The four-year undergraduate degree provides an opportunity to gain additional knowledge and skills and goes a long way in improving the quality of education. It gives flexibility through exit points at the end of 3rd year and 4th year, better combination of major and minor courses.

Secondly, he suggested, “The traditional models of classroom based learning are challenged by e-learning and massive open online courses (MOOCs). Social media is changing the way learning takes place. We must fully harness the technological potential for building a university of the future. His third suggestion was interdisciplinary and professional approaches to higher education.

Talking about the pertinent need of the conference, Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor, JGU said “The Indian higher education system is facing many challenges, as issues related to quality, quantity, accessibility, and equity are simultaneously being addressed.  While there has been an effort to address the challenge of expansion and provide opportunities to access higher education, a lot more needs to be done. O.P. Jindal Global University aims to overcome these challenges in a sustained manner to become a truly world-class institution.

This is a defining moment for the Indian Higher Education with the political leadership aligned with institutional aspirations. With substantive and sustained regulatory reforms, and significant funding made available to the Indian Higher Education sector, we can realistically hope that the next decade can have a few Indian Universities to become truly world class”.

The Conference is a culmination of a range of ideas and perspectives that aim to shape India's aspirations of building world-class universities through comparative and international dimensions. It is a recognition that the future of Indian universities and their ability to seek global excellence will depend on three critical paradigms, first, need for creating a vision for higher education that will focus on research and knowledge creation, institutional excellence and global benchmarking as the indicators for standard-setting; second, the need for pursuing substantial reforms relating to policy, regulation and governance of higher education; and third, is the need for investigating a paradigmatic shift for promoting interdisciplinary in higher education with a stronger and deeper focus on the pedagogy of teaching and learning in different fields of inquiry.

Through a series of perspectives from noted academics and scholars from around the world, the Conference will attempt to discuss these three strings of thought across various sessions, including sessions on research and innovation, regulation and policymaking, financing of universities, internationalisation of higher education and subject specific sessions on science and technology, medicine, law, management, social sciences and humanities, journalism, international affairs and public policy.

The goal is also to create higher education opportunities that will enable the future generations of students to pursue a world-class education in world-class universities in India.

Of Evolving Workplaces And Technological Advancements

What?

The second edition of SHRM Tech’16 Conference & Exposition

When?

Wednesday and Thursday, April 20-21

Where?

Renaissance Hotel, Mumbai

Technology been a driving force to the brainstorming sessions of mankind. Necessity is the mother of invention and has always been the motivation to achieving breakthroughs in various fields of interest across the human strata. Technology has been a catalyst to enhancing the productivity of our being.

More or less, technology has completely revolutionized our ideologies. Our daily routine is all about operating in conjunction with technological influences on our lifestyle. Technology has revamped our day-to-day activities by incorporating a high degree of convenience into it.

The fact which however, reigns supreme is that the availability of land, labor, and capital is of no use in the absence of human resource. Though it is true that the latter exploits the former to their optimum, there is also no denying the fact that the former three are pretty powerless if they are to be on their own, as it is just a bank of resources with zero utilization.

 ~~~
The other day, I came to read about the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). With its Motto of 'Leading People. Leading Organizations', SHRM is recognized for devoting itself to human resource management. The association has recently announced the agenda for the second edition of ‘HR Technology Conference & Exposition, which is deemed to be an influential conclave of people, business and technology.
By tapping the potential of the triple of Information, Knowledge, and Wisdom, this conference aims to provide a common platform to more than 650 delegates from organizations across all sectors.
The two day conference being conducted next week boasts of highly constructed sessions, panel discussions, and keynote addresses, wherein industry experts will debate and discuss the pertinent question of being able to bridge the gap between HR and technology.
A few of the illustrious personalities on the Global as well as Indian strata, who have consented to gracing the exposition are:
  • Jason Averbook, CEO, Thought Leader & Author;
  • Anuranjita Kumar, Managing Director, Chief Human Resources Officer, Citi South Asia;
  • Viresh Oberaoi, Founder CEO and MD, Mjunction Services Ltd.;
  • Dr. Sumit D Chowdhury, Founder CEO 'Gaia Smart Cities', Business Leader, Author & Motivational Speaker, Coach;
  • Abhijit Bhaduri, Chief Learning Officer, Wipro Ltd.
The conference aims to focus its attention to, and gain a broader perspective on how HR technologies are impacting company bottom lines, while applauding HR Innovation in the age of Technology.
Also on the radar would be how it is imperative for HR Tech to be about user experience, while observing how human resource management is becoming increasingly more technology-based, and how Technology is being employed as an HR Strategy.
 ~~~

Panel discussions are also to be held on varied topics of technological interest of the likes of Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things And… People, and Wearable Technologies.

Ms. Achal Khanna, CEO, SHRM India Operations, while announcing the conference, said:

After receiving an overwhelming response in the last year’s conference, we proudly announce our second edition of HR Tech Conference. Technology is driving HR Profession at a great pace, be it, mobile, analytics, cloud (SMAC), or Software as a Service (SaaS), video, Big Data, gamification, MOOCs, or the Internet of things (IoT). It is a perfect time for HR professionals to unite and discuss the way forward for an extensive use of technology in HR domain to be at par with the fastest changing business world. SHRM Tech Conference is a perfect platform for the HR professionals to share their experiences and connect with the leading experts through transformational sessions and workshops, based on leading and emerging technologies in HR space.”

Besides more than fifteen uniquely constructed knowledge sessions and panel discussions, there will be live product demos where one can get a real-feel of the technologies that will redefine work processes in organisations.

I would advise corporate professionals in Mumbai to register themselves as Delegates for the Expo as it seems quite a promising line-up and exchange of ideas and had I been a corporate myself, I would have registered for such a brilliant conference.

These Pearls Are Taking Creative Business By Storm...

Top post on IndiBlogger.in, the community of Indian Bloggers

~~~
I could never have imagined that imparting education could be such an innovative, involving and interesting foray, until the day I observed a glowing smile on the faces of students I met. The same, pure selfless happiness was to be observed on the faces of the faculty members I met. This is probably the best example of a win-win situation.
The students not only got enough opportunities and liberty to learn and enhance their individual knowledge banks but also, ample innovation and freedom to explore newer and unvisited worlds in their respective fields.
All the credit goes to the teaching methodology and a nurturing environment which has been adopted by them across all the courses, across all their campuses. That is the real reason behind the global reputation of this Academy in the arena of fashion, design, and creativity.
I was among the privileged ones to witness #Portfolio15 - a sea of talent, creativity, innovation, out-of-box thinking, and fun - by polished Pearlites of the well known, Pearl Academy, formerly known as Pearl Academy Of Fashion, organized at the NSIC Exhibition Ground, Okhla, New Delhi.
When we talk of creativity, it is mostly limited, focusing in one direction. For a wonderful change, we witnessed the meaning of creativity going beyond its rudimentary definition. For a change, creativity could be witnessed all around us, universally in all the directions, that day. There were an unmatched energy and zest around, and a superb bonding between the students and the teaching staff.
The moment I reached the venue there were barriers right within the immediate periphery beyond which I was not allowed to take my vehicle. The burning sun had me worried when I realized that from that point on, I would have to walk along the dominating ball of heat. To my relief, the Academy had run a shuttle service for the masses' convenience.
Proclaiming myself as a Blogger and grabbing the exclusive Media Invite was as hassle free as reaching the venue. The moment I entered, I was greeted by the faculty in-charge of the four 'Schools of Pearl'. I was acquainted with a kiosk familiarizing me with the School Of Foundation, meant for the first-year students to grasp the world outside their cocoons, and discover their inherent creativity.
This funky bicycle is what welcomed me into a world of out-of-box designs...
In my opinion, all the Schools are quite interestingly and aptly named, in tune with their theme and strategic grooming of the respective students studying in these schools. It was astonishing to see more than five hundred projects on display by the Final Year students, who were ready to take the Fashion Fraternity by storm. These projects are a part of the proceedings for the fulfillment of the requirements of their course I was told, where they need to put their best foot forward, demonstrating all their skills in a polished and innovative manner.
The first day of a three-day long #Porfolio15  had over fifteen hundred school-going students from around thirty top schools of Delhi - NCR, attending an exclusive series of workshops on 'Design Immersion Experience'.  The students who attended these workshops were quite thrilled to familiarize themselves with this new and unexplored world of creativity and design.
They were seen enjoying the sessions and absorbing the insights with complete enthusiasm. These workshops were conducted in various streams like Product Design, Photography, Styling, and so on. It was the expertise of Pearl Academy that was mesmerizing the visiting students and I am sure most of them would have been thinking of joining this wonderful world once they cope with their school studies. That is the magic of Pearl Academy.
Sneha's tea-set was refreshingly geometric...
This is what the School Of Creative Business had to offer...
On the same lines, the second day was set to welcome a special guest – Manish Malhotra – as Guest of Honor. He had a number of things planned for the time he was going to spend at #Portfolio15, during the latter half of the day. He had to address the final year students after going through the effort each of them had put in their projects. Pearl's final year students were seen having the time of their life when they got a chance, with not only Manish Malhotra addressing them face-to-face but also to grab a memorabilia - a 'group selfie' with the renowned designer.
The students were assigned groups to walk to the stage and grab their moment with Manish, and all this was in such a disciplined manner that there was not a single moment of chaos or disorganization.
After that, in the evening, there were two fashion shows, one before the Guest of Honor's arrival, and the other, in his presence. Both the shows were fantastic and it was quite good to note that the creativity demonstrated by students had taken him by a pleasant surprise.
 Not only Manish, but also the ace designer duo Shantanu-Nikhil were present at the event and were all praises for this ocean of talent, that has been churning Pearls in the era of Creative Business for over a good two decades! :)
Claudio Del'Era From Italy At SOIL India...
Recently, I visited SOIL (School of Inspired Leadership) to attend a session by Claudio Del'Era and his students. This was the last session for the first day of a 5-day long venture. The session was a workshop on Design Based Innovation. There were around 50 odd students from all over the country and all were quite enthusiastic to attend this interactive session with Claudio. The complete arrangement was done by SOIL's management at their campus in Gurgaon.
~~~

In fact, this is not the only session that has been organized by SOIL. There are so many of such informative sessions organized from time to time with varying tenure to match the aspiring needs of the budding leaders of the country. Claudio had come from Italy and there he is fully engaged in multiple activities related to Design based Innovation, which is his favorite subject.

~~~
Claudio is a well-known figure worldwide being one of the top few who have mastered the subject, 'Design based Thinking and Innovation’. He has vibrant energy when you discuss with him about his subject and the way he makes you understand about the ins and outs of Design based Innovation, probably you would get the know about it from the ground. The fundamentals about this subject were well explained by him at length with right fitting real life examples. Claudio carries a Doctorate in this subject and this is the field where very few dare to get into.
~~~

Claudio works as a Co-Director of an interesting and a quite popular institute in Italy – MaDe In Lab which extends to Management of Design and Innovation Laboratory. He takes care of three major portfolios here – Training, Research, and Consulting. Besides this, Claudio is also working as an Assistant Professor at MIP Politecnico.
