"In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way."
The above quote by Franklin Roosevelt aptly sums up all the politics that is going about in the world at large. Even for fictional manipulative political dramas driven by ambition, desire, and revenge, like House Of Cards, it finely presents the visual.
The brainchild of Beau Willimon, House of Cards is an American political drama web television series. Having had a successful run of thirteen episodes each spanning across four seasons, each one carrying forward the story of its predecessor, House of Cards is all set to be back in India with its newest season continuing from where the previous one ended.
House of Cards Season 5 is an engrossing political drama. Kevin Spacey in the lead role as Francis Underwood surpasses everyone in the fray to reach the top in power in Washington, D.C. This Emmy and Golden Globe-winning political drama offers the highest level of entertainment to its viewers. As Francis says right in the beginning - “There are two kinds of pain. The pain that makes you strong. And the pain that is useless. The pain that is a sort of suffering. I have no patience for useless things. At times you need to act, to do unpleasant things but the necessary things.”
And he makes it clear that probably to stay on the top you need to be more than just a smart, intelligent, and knowledgeable person. Having served the Congress for twenty-two years, he evolves in his own inspirations. Someone dares to deny the promise made to him to make him procure one of the most suitable places in the Government. The person who denies Frank probably doesn't perceive the shrewdness of his mind and is thus in for grave consequences.
Francis Underwood and his wife Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) could neither absorb the denial silently nor take it for granted with all kind of compromises. They decide to take the reigns in their hands and run the show the way they want the things to happen. Francis, as is clear already, is capable of going to any extent if someone pursues him unnecessarily. He builds excellent strategies to mold the situation in such a way that everything starts falling into place according to his will, without anybody getting even the slightest hint that it is he who is behind everything that is happening.
Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara) is a journalist in Washington Herald. She is a fresher but is quite dynamic to achieve milestones in her career. And she is smart enough to know which string to touch to make the music she wishes to hear. She is daring and intelligent. Equal amounts of sharp, focused, and balanced reflect in her portrayal. She understands that keeping her aggression and emotions under control is very important at this stage of life. Other key characters in the story are Peter Russo (Corey Stoll), Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly), Linda Vasquez (Sakina Jaffrey), Christina Gallagher (Kristin Connolly), and Lucas Goodwin (Sebastian Arcelus).
The story of House of Cards is intense and fast-paced. There is a lot of action and sequences to ensure you stay hooked to the serial every moment. The story revolves around Francis in the lead role handling it magnificently. He plays the role so naturally that at times you are in awe of him for all the moves he takes, good or bad, doesn't matter. Even when he does the worst of the things, it is for a cause. And to the viewers, the cause seems to be genuine.
Frank Underwood is plain-faced ruthless and does what he does like a cold-blooded criminal. Moreover, he doesn't rest until the bull's eye is struck. It is a house of terror and the person who is responsible for spreading terror has gained complete sympathy from the viewers. That is the power of the story and the character of Frank Underwood, and the way it is portrayed by Kevin Spacey. What I feel is that it is not only important to watch solely the premiere but also every episode of House of Cards Season 5. In fact, one can't afford to miss even a single one, otherwise, there are chances of losing perspective.
Frank Underwood is coming to India with the television premiere of House Of Cards Season 5 on Saturday, 3rd June, 5 PM onwards, only on Zee Café!
With #HOConZCafe, it is quite simple to be in tandem with the progression of the storyline. House Of Cards is the intense political drama it is, and you never know who shall end up backstabbing whom and who shall overtake whom in the race to the pinnacle. The right move at the right time empowers the shrewd mind and can act as a game changer at any given instant. ;)
