#SachinAtSmaaash To Amp The Ambience...

SMAAASH is an active entertainment space and a one-stop shop for patrons to play, party and celebrate. With a wide repertoire of games spanning Arcade, Virtual Reality, and Simulation genres to name a few, the brand journey has seen a steady growth to becoming one of the most loved entertainment destinations for many around the country and overseas.

My most recent visit to SMAAASH came about as a consequence of the unveiling of their newest outlets at the Ambience Malls in the city, namely at Vasant Kunj and Gurugram. The fun-and-food centers have sprung up in place of the quite popular bluO lounges in both malls.

The icing on the cake turned out to be the presence of Master Blaster and SMAAASH's Brand Ambassador Sachin Tendulkar who had a brief media interaction while unveiling the newest catchphrase and logo of SMAAASH that proclaimed 'Can't Stop Playing' - and rightly so! :)

Also present at the launch was Mr.  Shripal Morakhia, Chief Imagination Officer, SMAAASH Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., who was of such opinion with regard to the expansion

"All the games here are like the three A’s of SMAAASH – Amazing, Aspirational and Awesome. We are the best place for celebrations, as one can eat, play and party, all under one roof. Also, considering the changing tastes of the consumers, we will be regularly introducing new gaming concepts. With our presence across twenty-six centers in thirteen cities and growing, SMAAASH aims to change the way our country celebrates each day."

Commenting on the concept of SMAAASH that has visibly gained popularity among families and youth alike, Sachin regarded SMAAASH as a great platform for people to de-stress and enjoy with friends and family. He was of the opinion that SMAAASH has redefined the concept of sports entertainment in the country while providing wholesome entertainment for sports lovers and thrill-seekers.

The newly-designed spaces maintain a vibrant balance between energizing and yet a chilled out ambiance, where one can hang with friends and family.

Meanwhile, the in-house café and bar at SMAAASH will ensure that one enjoys hearty meals and heady drinks during the fun gaming sessions with the gang.

In addition to their brand expansion over the Indian subcontinent, SMAAASH has also targeted the USA with the Mall of America while expansion in Saudi Arabia and Dubai is in the pipeline.

Smashing Food At Smaaash!

Earlier last month, while on a shopping spree at Mall of India, Noida, I discovered this gem of a place that is Smaaash. It is a gamer's paradise that also incorporates a food space by the name of Mighty Small into itself, which is based on a vibrant carnival theme.

The games at Smaaash are categorised into Arcade, Virtual Reality, and games that require physical participation. From Cricket to Bowling to Walk The Plank to Roller Coaster Rides to Motor Racing to Football, there's something or the other at Smaaash that would appeal to gaming enthusiasts.

The Mighty Small Cafe area has been separated from the gaming area by the means of a ramp inside the premises. That way, it also acts as a private area for parties and gatherings. Being a family place, Smaaash acts like the perfect day-long picnic, for it has been optimised to cater to fun, play, and food. We were here during the day and also witnessed a kid's birthday bash being catered to, quite efficiently. Our meal, was also, needless to say, an amalgamation of excellently presented dishes and an attempt at most of the games hosted at Smaaash.

Here's the low-down on the food we tried. 

Soups: 

Roasted Tomato and Basil, served with garlic croutons.

Sweet Corn Chicken was an extravaganza of corn and chicken, flavorful on the palate.

Appetizers:

Smaaash Nachos are a signature dish, as is evident from the nomenclature. These were loaded with melted cheese, salsa, and olives.

Basil Stir Fry Fish had a characteristic smoked flavour to it, thanks to the way it was prepared.

Dahi Ke Kebab, a classic that has to be done right, without fail. This one was tangy and melt-in-mouth.

Veggie Lover Pizza was a pleasant combination of corn, mushroom, and bell pepper.

Veg Platter & Non-Veg Platter both consisted of Chef Kartikey's choicest preparations and the presentation was a visual treat.

Mocktails/Shakes:

Lemon and Mint Iced Tea, Passion Fruit Iced Tea, and Pomegranate and Peach Iced Tea each had their characteristic flavours owing to respective ingredients.

Baby Split Shake & Throw In Smoothie packed a punch with banana, strawberry, and chocolate chips.

Main Course:

Fried Rice was classically prepared and humbly presented.

Chicken Tikka Masala was an authentic Indian gravy with boneless chicken chunks.

Grilled Fish was a stand-out preparation for which Chef Kartikey himself explained the methodology of smoking it in butter.

Dessert:

Ice-Cream Soda Float

Smaaash Noida, in a nutshell, is a one-stop-eatery for a day out with family or friends as the case may be as it is a place that would appeal to everyone, age-no-bar, thanks to its fool-proof combination of fun and food, wherein both the aspects are flawlessly catered to. :)

#DecathlonHUDAOpens A Sporting World...

The end of August was all set to be marked as a Sporty Affair, all because of Decathlon and their decision to proclaim to Delhi/NCR that it is time when #DecathlonHUDAOpens in a few days' time on September 3, 2016.

It was my pleasure to have been invited to the Blogger's Preview Launch at their newest kid on the block. In my opinion, it was a sporting extravaganza and any sportsperson's paradise.

You name it, and they have it, only because Decathlon has been a one-stop-shop for all things Sports. And, by Sports, I certainly do not mean just Cricket. The term 'Sports' is more than just this one game that we Indians are obsessed with.

Whichever physical activity involving skill, exertion, competition and sportsmanship spirit comes to your mind, at the mention of the term - be it cricket, tennis, badminton, golf, skateboarding, cycling, swimming, hiking - or even fitness equipment - the necessary sportswear, equipment, and accessories (if any) to participate in all such sporting tournaments is all available at Decathlon, be it in India or worldwide.

Catering to an array of 50 sports and 5,000+ products, there is a bleak chance that Decathlon's sheer range won't sweep an athlete or even common men or women off their feet. It is not that Decathlon is a mere museum for all things sports. They know their business and they know it quite well.

In case you didn't realize, their business is Customer Satisfaction, sans the trickery to impose their products on a potential client who walks into their stores.

The newest outlet in Gurgaon at HUDA City Centre Metro Station which is bound to be open to public tomorrow morning - #DecathlonHUDAOpens - is no different. It follows in the footsteps of, and mirrors the brand philosophy at Decathlon.

Theirs is an interesting way of recruiting staff. An enthusiastic persona who makes their work their play is what they look for, given that he/she also reflects Decathlon's mission and vision i.e. each employee at Decathlon Stores across the globe would be well-versed with at least one sport - having played it or followed it quite religiously!

So, the first question you ask any of the staff whom you come across inside the store is - 'Which sport are you into?' Each one would have at least one sport's name to tell you.

And,  the one who assists you in choosing the right product from their range matching your requirements regarding a particular sport is the one who is well-versed with that sport, inside-out.

The interaction with Mr. Prajval (Operations Head - North India) and Ms. Sabrina (Store Manager - Decathlon HUDA) was extremely insightful and they were more than happy to address all queries coming from us Bloggers.

What is also impressive is that Decathlon source their sporting equipment from places where a particular sport is most prevalent and has the suited environmental conditions to test. No, they do not approve a sporting equipment to be put on the shelves from the comfort of an air-conditioned office cabin, but test in it in real-time rugged conditions to check if it fares well before being presented to their customers across Stores.

I wish Decathlon India luck with the opening tomorrow, hoping that this store too, caters to Decathlon's client-base with panache. :)

Cricket, The UC Web Way!

Cricket in India is like a religion, with Indians as resolute devotees. Ace cricketers from all around the world are regarded as deities by all cricket fanatics.

When a sport takes the form of an obsession, a passion, it is imperative that all other work take the back seat and the obsession is given the first priority.

After all, why shouldn't it be like that when the fanaticism in question is for the game of cricket? :)

In our nation, people of all ages experience a certain thrill and excitement at the mention of the sport and are ready to go to scale even the Mt. Everest in order to avoid missing a match!

Moreover, with various formats of the game, which had been introduced over the past many years to appeal to the audiences, nationally and internationally, it does not come as a surprise that love for this particular sport is innate.

School-going children, middle-aged individuals, and even senior citizens seem to have been gripped by cricket fever.

It is nearly impossible to find any Indian compromising with his liking for the gentleman's game. For, most of us, it is like choosing cricket over everything else in the world, blindfolded.

As a matter of fact, cricket is a game of the masses in the true sense, as it is a force like no other in our nation. We are tempted to skip work, postpone family get-togethers, bunk college, or even cancel a meeting! It is simply amazing that a subtle sport can appeal to such extent to the masses.

While it is not the game itself which I like, but the sportsmanship spirit exhibited by some players on the field which captures my attention, I would also like to add here that it is fun sometimes to juggle and balance between the game of cricket and personal or professional commitments.

Thankfully, most of the matches are day-night and hence I am able to reach home around the same time that they begin.
These are the perks of being a school teacher, which I enjoy occasionally.

As far as balancing household duties with the urge to watch a match and spend quality time with the family, while enjoying the televised game is concerned, I am thankful to myself, because it was my wise decision to get a wall mount television installed in the kitchen. Am I clever or am I clever! :D

For the times when I am in the go, however, I have my smartphone as a trustworthy companion with the UC Browser installed on it. It is this super fast browser by UC Web which enables me to watch any cricket match in the style of UC Cricket!

All About #EkNayiLeague...

There is something in the air with various proximities of guesswork doing the rounds. Some proximities indicate it is going to be a live quiz show, some looking at a real time game show. Well, whatever the guesses are and whichever of them turns into a reality, the fact is that when it is driven by none other than Kapil Dev, the great legend of Indian Cricket, it is going to be a sixer.

As per the information revealed so far by Kapil Dev on various platforms, today is the inauguration of some new adventurous league, #EkNayiLeague in Mumbai and so far it is a big suspense what it is all about.

Kapil Dev has also confirmed that the league members confirmed so far are Mahi (Mahendra Singh Dhoni), Sehwag (Virender Sehwag), Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) and Bittoo (Kapil Sharma). With this team, one thing is for sure, it is going to be a league of intellect being presented on the idiot box.

It might be a reality show. Kapil will be our host. Which Kapil it would be, is yet to be known. ;)
If it is indeed a reality series, I'd be looking forward to some newness to set it apart from the run-of-mill shows.

Kapil Dev has recently stepped into the buzzing world of Twitter, in the last week of April and has received a very warm welcome from his friends, fans, and followers. His tweets are quite interesting and are a mix of Hindi and English.

He has been able to build quite a rapport and suspense around this new to-be-declared league. The tag line that is being repeatedly focused on is – If you play this league with your heart, you are bound to get hit wicket or bowled out with a googly.

Now that is really a good catch, hinting it to be a mind-boggling game where you make a careless mistake and are out of the game in a flash. Then, the league is not about the power of physical muscles, it means. It is going to be about the power of grey cells, the mental muscles.

We all know, whatever Kapil Dev does, he does with a perfection. Be it batting, bowling, playing golf, commentary or a public address. His personality exhibits a requisite amount of self-discipline, control, intelligence, power and practice.

His achievements are far away from a fluke. Whatever he has earned, he deserved it. His marvelous batting in the Cricket World Cup, 1983 was a master stroke which brought his quick-wittedness and self-control, to the light.

We also know of Kapil Dev’s love for golf. He is a very keen observer, fast learner and a master player in all streams of life. Now, whatever is being planned for this league is going to be a very interesting affair, indeed. Let us wait and watch one of the guess work turns to gold.

A game which is not so gentle anymore.

A game which is fine-tuning its pursuits by the day and improvising on its abilities by the night.

Cricket, as a sport has transformed its image, from a mere sport to a passion in its own right. As a game, it has seen many illustrious individuals attempting to start from a rough patch in life to scale the greener pastures on field while some had to retreat while biting the dust. 

Cricket, as a sport, sharpens skill and mentors a person to balance his physical, mental and emotional self. As a game, it had established its foot in the Indian subcontinent, with the advent of British oppression and with Indians attempting to acquaint themselves with the mannerisms, etiquette, routines, and playful interests of the Englishmen. 

From the lanes of monochrome in time, Cricket as a sport, has sprinted past its bland imagery of the past numerous centuries, to emerge as a zealous, energizing and engrossing pastime. Gradually, it has gained the status of a well-formed and well-received profession by the masses.

Cricketers today, have been fortunate enough to enjoy the celebrity status and the limelight too. Why shouldn't they, now that the boundaries between genres is diminishing. Any talented individual is by all means eligible for an applause for his effort, ain't he? And, why not if he's a part of the playing eleven, and an individual who is a part of a team that is representing the nation, across the globe! :)

We've seen higher benchmarks of performance being set year by year, series by series, match by match, and format by format. We've seen how a sense of competition has balanced itself with a healthy team-work spirit, over the years, without fail. :)

Having said  that the cricketing fraternity of today is no less than celebrities today, we've also seen a revamp of the wardrobe, an upward trend in consciousness of the self and its imagery among the masses. and an improved sense of style. Why not, when they're raking in, the green by endorsing a multitude of brands too? ;)

The game of Cricket has also wholeheartedly signed a pact with its partner in sportsmanship - Technology - in order to embrace an improved standard of playing - on the field and off it too. ^_^ 

Cricketers lead a fascinating life. Following their passion for the sport, basking in the pride of representing the nation. Not only that, they also get to set foot on the soil, where their inspirations, the past cricketing legends have previously played. Such soil profiles are spread all over the world! :D

All in all, cricketers are a unique species, who live their dream with each passing day. One can't help but look up to their performance, attempt to ape their style, marvel at the technological advancements in their game and aspire to set foot on the same soil which they've graced, some day in the future. <3

Let me tell you one more thing. We Indians are not mere Cricket fans. We are pure fanatics. We consider ourselves as devotees and Cricket as our only religion. And, this comes from a lady who has been your quintessential cricket lover, ever since the beginning.

It is the duty of every devotee to make a pilgrimage, is it not? ;)
There are places around the world where history has been made, legends have been equated to heroes from folklore and records have been shattered. The World of Cricket abounds in such revered places of pilgrimage.

It is said that we must always pray to Lord Almighty, before setting out on a journey, in order to seek his blessings so that we may not encounter any troubles while we are at it. 

Which is our first destination, then? 

This, without a doubt. 

And, even though, it needs no introduction, we have this illustrious location waiting to welcome us. 

The Mecca Of Cricket.

The  Lord's Cricket Ground and MCC Museum, London.

Founded by and named after the gentleman above, with a smile on his face, Thomas Lord, Lord's, situated in the capital city of England, is undoubtedly, the Mecca of Cricket. Find its foundation being laid in 1814, by Lord.

The stadium is also home to another first in the world - the oldest sports museum - MCC, which was established in 1953, by the Duke of Edinburgh.

The Marylebone Cricket Club Museum too houses a collector's delight in the form of some invaluable memorabilia, which include the Ashes Urn.

Now that his name finds a mention above, let us visit the Duke's place to get a taste of his royal lifestyle while in London.

Well, don't be.

We're referring to this Indian entrepreneur, Dilip Jajodia, who bought the Dukes Cricket Factory in 1987.

This factory was first established in 1760, at Tonbridge, Kent.

See, we even witnessed the making of the Ashes Ball, by Dukes, in the first person!

After all, witnessing the making of the quintessential cricket ball possesses a charm of its own.

There's one last place left to visit before we depart for West Indies.

Probably the oldest cricket ground, being utilized since the days of  yore, in 1685.

Our next destination is Grenada, to be precise.

We're to visit The West Indies Cricket Heritage Centre, Grenada.

West Indies is respected for the fact that they were the first nation to be awarded the title of World Champions, holding the first two World Cups, to their credit. WICHC is the only museum dedicated to their entire history of cricket.

Located in Beaulieu, Grenada, the museum houses the best memorabilia of Windies' history and is a part of the Spice Basket Museum.

The World is also thankful to West Indies for having given the cricketing fraternity, illustrious individuals of the likes of Clive Lloyd, Brian Lara and Vivian Richards.

We were introduced to this house of heritage by none other than Whispering Death.

People, you're now in The HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala!

Situated at a height of 4780 feet, surrounded by the Dhauladhar Range, this stadium gives stiff competition to WACA, Perth, or even Lord's for that matter!

And, who awaits our presence at this scenic location? 

None other than India's most illustrious cricket commentator, Harsha Bhogle. 

We Indians believe that - If our Cricket is a religion and Sachin Tendulkar is the God, then Harsha Bhogle is the high priest of cricket. ^_^

The Dukes from London have a distant cousin here in India. 

Surprised?

Well, don't be. 

The Dukes have not exactly set their work in India. 

Instead, we have our indigenous cricket equipment manufacturing factories. 

Where? 

Cricket Ball Factories, Meerut. 

With due permission, you could witness the making of cricket equipment, just like at Dukes! 

We were accompanied by a native sportsman, Umesh Yadav. 

He is all smiles to lead cricket fanatics to witness this treat to the eyes. 

Will you be visiting this factory to witness the effort and time which goes into the making of leather balls? 
Some day, you must. 
At least, an Indian cricket fanatic must.

Wait a minute. 

If you've come to the land, where a sport is a religion, how could you not pay your respects to the God of the sport? 

Advancing to Mumbai, to visit the place where a boy honed his skills, to become a player. 

A player who became the God of Cricket. 

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. 

A God whose aura motivates young cricket enthusiasts with dreams in his eyes to diligently visit the Shivaji Park, Mumbai to practice every day. 

Youngsters who aspire to debut as a player with the Indian team also come and play in the hope of good luck.

When we've payed respects to our God, can his inspirations stay far behind? 

Do you fancy the Little Master accompanying you while you take a stroll down the Wall Of Fame at The Blades Of Glory Museum, Pune? 

Everyone's all smiles as we marvel at some of the cricket kits, which various players utilized at the time of breaking records and setting new benchmarks. 

Wouldn't you want to be left awed, by a sight as inspiring as bats signed by all the World Cup-winning teams till date and also by the entire Indian and West Indian line up that was part of God's last match? 

Well, who wouldn't?

Shouldn't we head South if I told you that we have a temple dedicated to Cricket AND Lord Ganesha? 

Excited, aren't you? 

So was our Cheeka, when we told him that we were heading for his state.

See, Kris Srikkanth is all pepped up to visit The Cricket Ganesha Temple, Chennai, with Tilak on his forehead! 

Imagine visiting a thirteen-year-old temple, which houses two different idols of the chief deity, one posing as a batsman (on the right) and the other as a bowler (on the left). 

How cool is that? ;)

If that weren't enough, there is also a deity with eleven heads depicting the 'Playing Eleven' on the field. 

The temple sees devotees who come to pray for their team to do well.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia. 

Undoubtedly. 

Established in 1854, MCG was the first stadium to introduce a color scorecard with instant replay displayed on the ground. 

And, who better than Shane Warne, to guide our way to the world's largest cricket stadium!

What does that remind you of? 

The WACA Ground, Perth. 

Boasting of the quickest pitch and fast outfield, it also houses items from cricketing history, as well as memorabilia from histories of other sports at the WACA Museum. 

At WACA, to welcome us, we have James Brayshaw, a former cricketer representing Western Australia, who is now, an impressive cricket commentator.

Next, we'll be leaving for New Zealand.

We're here to visit The New Zealand Cricket Museum, Wellington.

The Basin Reserve is home to the New Zealand's historic Test venue and the New Zealand Cricket Museum.

It features cricketing artifacts from the 19th century, exclusive and unique memorabilia such as the large cricket boots of Sir Richard Hadlee. 

For introducing us to these cricketing artifacts, former NZ Captain, Jeremy Coney has come over! :) 

The Basin Reserve is a must-visit for the time when you jaunt to NZ.

We had begun our journey with The Mecca. 

We'll draw a close to it by paying our respects to The Don. 

Which is the final lap of our journey? 

Well, the buck stops at The Bradman Museum & International Cricket Hall of Fame, New South Wales. 

We are now paying respect to arguably one of the best batsmen to ever grace the game. 

Apart from Sir Donald Bradman's glorious legacy, the Museum now also exhibits the growth of cricket as a sport over the many years.

The museum incorporates interactive touch screen displays and state-of-art facility.

We've now come to the end of our globe-trotting pilgrimage.
